Tawa Pulao | Mumbai Street Food Recipe
Do you love street food? Try Mumbai street style Tawa Pulao! It’s a very popular dish and pretty simple to make. It is a delicious medley of rice, veggies and pao bhaji masala. This flavourful pulao can be the ideal meal for all those lazy days. So give it a try!
Tawa pulao/pulav is prepared with steamed rice which is tossed with tomatoes, bell peppers, cabbage, carrots, green peas and pao bhaji masala. This recipe can be the perfect way to sneak some veggies in your diet. I have used these vegetables but you can add any other vegetable of your choice. You can also use leftover rice for this recipe if you like. Serve this spicy and tangy pulao with raita and onions.

Ingredients:
- 3 cups cooked rice
- 2 tbsp butter
- 1 tbsp oil
- 2 tsp cumin seeds
- ½ cup onion, chopped
- 1 tsp ginger-garlic paste
- 1/cup tomato, chopped
- ⅓ cup green bell pepper, chopped
- ⅓ cup red bell pepper, chopped
- ⅓ cup cabbage, chopped
- ⅓ cup carrot, chopped
- ⅓ cup green peas
- 2 tbsp pav bhaji masala
- 1 tsp coriander powder
- ½ tsp turmeric powder
- ½ tsp red chilli powder
- Salt to taste
- 3 tbsp coriander leaves, chopped
- 3 tbsp mint leaves, chopped
- 1 tbsp lemon juice
Cooking Directions:
Boil water in a pot. Add carrots and green peas. Boil for about 5 minutes or until they are tender. Then drain the water out. Keep it aside.
In a non-stick pan heat butter and oil on medium flame. Add cumin seeds and cook until aromatic.
Add chopped onions and saute until golden brown.
Add ginger-garlic paste and cook till the raw smell disappears.
Then add chopped tomatoes, green bell pepper, red bell pepper and cabbage. Mix well.
Cover with a lid and cook for 5 minutes.
Add pav bhaji masala, coriander powder, turmeric powder, red chilli powder and salt. Mix everything nicely.
Cook for 2-3 minutes.
Add the boiled carrots and green peas. Mix well.
Add cooked rice. Gently mix everything without breaking the rice.
Add chopped mint and coriander leaves. Pour lemon juice. Mix everything well.
Serve hot with raita and onions.
