Grilled Cheese and Onion Sandwiches
Missing street food? Want to make a cheesy and comforting snack at home? Try these delicious grilled cheese and onion sandwiches. They are the best snack ever! It requires just a few ingredients and tastes absolutely divine.
These veg cheese sandwiches are loaded with mozzarella cheese and caramelized onions. Grilled in an electric grill/sandwich maker until golden in colour. But if you don’t have a griller then you can also make them on a tawa or grill pan. Serve them hot with tomato ketchup or any other sauce/dip. Trust me it will surely curb your cheese cravings.

Prep Time: 5 min | Cook Time: min | Total Time: 45 min
Serves: 4 sandwiches
Ingredients:
- 8 white bread slices
- 3-4 tbsp butter
- 1 cup mozzarella cheese, grated
- 1/2 tsp black pepper powder
For the caramelized onions:
- 1 cup onions, chopped (approx 2 medium-sized onions)
- 3 tbsp butter
- Salt to taste
Cooking Directions:
To make the caramelized onions:
Take a non-stick pan and heat it over a medium flame. Add butter and allow it to melt completely.
Once it starts bubbling, add chopped onions. Give them a good stir. Cook for 2-3 minutes.
Then reduce the flame to low. Add salt and mix well. Within a few minutes, the onions will become soft and turn translucent. Keep stirring it occasionally.
Continue cooking over a low flame until they turn golden in colour. It may take approximately 20-25 minutes.
Once the onions caramelize, turn the heat off and transfer them to a bowl. Keep it aside to cool down completely.
To make the onion and cheese filling:
Take a small bowl, add grated mozzarella cheese, caramelized onions and black pepper powder. Mix well and keep it aside.
To make the grilled cheese and onion sandwiches:
Take a bread slice, apply butter on both sides. Keep it aside. Repeat the same process for the rest of the bread slices.
Add the onion and cheese filling over four bread slices. Top with the other slices of bread.
Place the sandwiches over an electric grill or sandwich maker. Close the lid and cook them for 2-3 minutes or until they become golden in colour.
If you don’t have an electric grill then you can also cook them over a grill pan or tawa.
Serve them hot with tomato ketchup.
