What is lassi?
Lassi is a traditional yoghurt-based Indian drink. It originated in Punjab and now it is made all across the country. There are so many variations of this drink. Other than the classic sweet or salty lassi, some people like to flavour it with different fruits. Like mango lassi, pineapple lassi, strawberry lassi and many more. Chocolate lassi has become really popular with the kids. The rich and chocolatey texture is so heavenly. And masala lassi has recently become quite famous. It is a beautiful fusion of various Indian spices, herbs and yoghurt.
How to make lassi at home?
So in this post, I have shared a sweet lassi recipe. Though it is not overly sweet. To make this refreshing drink at home, take a blender or liquidizer jar, pour thick yoghurt, sugar and a pinch of salt. Adding a little salt will enhance the flavour and balance the sweetness. Blend until the lassi becomes frothy and bubbly. Then pour it into the glass and top it with a spoonful of fresh cream or malai. A glass of lassi with a thick and creamy layer of malai on top is my absolute favourite! And you can also garnish it with chopped nuts. You can add any nut of your choice. Here I have used some sliced almonds and pistachios.
Health benefits of drinking lassi:
Lassi is one of the best Indian summer drinks. A chilled glass of lassi will cool you off instantly and will keep you full for several hours. Apart from being a refreshing drink, it is packed with various nutrients and vitamins. As yoghurt is the main ingredient of this drink, thus it becomes a good source of calcium. It will improve bone health and will make them strong. Yoghurt also contains good bacteria which lubricates the intestines and helps in digestion. Lassi is also an excellent source of probiotics which is essential for a healthy gut. It is also rich in lactic acid and vitamin D. They help in boosting the immune system. Lactic acid is also said to be good for the skin. It cleanses the skin from within, removes blemishes and improves skin texture.
